About Scratch That Itch
Independent digital thinking when the answer is still unclear
Scratch That Itch helps organisations investigate ideas, define digital projects and make better decisions before serious time and money are committed.
We bring commercial thinking, digital experience and independent advice to the messy bit between “we should do something about this” and knowing what should happen next.
Where Scratch came from
Scratch That Itch came from a conversation after a long day of agency meetings in London.
Over a debrief drink afterwards, a client admitted that the thing he was actually most excited about had very little to do with the project we had spent the day discussing.
He had a business idea he kept coming back to, but assumed testing it properly would mean months of work and significant investment.
The point was simple: it did not have to.
The market could be investigated, the proposition tested and something simple created to start gathering useful evidence long before committing to a major project.
He laughed and said something along the lines of:
“Is there any itch you can’t scratch?”
The phrase stuck. More importantly, so did the idea behind it.
Plenty of organisations and individuals are sitting on ideas, awkward problems and opportunities they keep returning to. They do not always need a large agency or a fully formed project.
Sometimes they need experienced help investigating it properly first.
The gap Scratch is designed to fill
The same pattern has appeared repeatedly over the years.
- “We’ve been talking about this for ages.”
- “We know this needs changing.”
- “We think there’s an opportunity here.”
- “We don’t know where to start.”
Scratch exists for that stage.
Scratch helps make sense of the opportunity, test the important assumptions and turn the right ideas into projects that can be understood, costed and delivered.
If the evidence says the idea should be simplified, tested differently or stopped, we will say so.
Experience without the theatre
Scratch brings over 25 years of digital experience, across start-ups, SMEs, schools, charities, universities and global brands.
The approach combines commercial thinking with a practical understanding of how digital ideas and projects are investigated, defined and delivered.
Commercial thinking
Focus on what makes sense for the organisation, not simply what can be built.
Digital experience
Experience across different organisations, sectors, technologies and delivery models.
Clear translation
Able to bridge the gap between leadership teams, users, agencies and technical specialists.
Calm, practical thinking without making the project sound more complicated than it is.
Independent by design
Scratch does not normally build the final website, platform or software.
We do not take referral fees or commissions from agencies, developers or technology providers.
Proceed. Simplify. Test something smaller.
Or stop.
Experienced support without a full-time digital hire
Scratch works with founders, SMEs, schools, charities and leadership teams that need experienced digital guidance without employing a full-time Head of Digital.
Support can be focused around one investigation or project, or continue through delivery where needed.
Where a project needs more than one pair of hands, we bring in trusted specialists for that piece of work.
How involvement usually works
- Focused investigation
- Defined project
- Ongoing support
